Dr. Dr. Oberna Ferenc Ph.D.

Dr. Dr. Oberna Ferenc Ph.D. is a maxillofacial and oral surgeon, implantologist, and clinical oncologist. He is the President of the Hungarian Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Head Physician and Director of the Multidisciplinary Center for Head and Neck Tumours at the National Institute of Oncology. He has over three decades of experience in the surgical treatment of head and neck tumours, complex oncological care, as well as aesthetic and reconstructive facial surgery.

He completed his medical studies between 1982 and 1988 at the Faculty of General Medicine at Semmelweis University of Medicine, graduating summa cum laude. He then continued his education at the Faculty of Dentistry at the same university between 1988 and 1991, also graduating summa cum laude. His professional development was supported by several residency programs and international study visits; he has worked at the National Institute of Oncology, the Saint Rókus Hospital, and the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck, and Skull Base Surgery at the Free University of Amsterdam, among others. He earned board certifications in oral surgery, stomatology, and clinical oncology between 1993 and 2000, and in 2006 completed a Master's program in implantology at the University of Münster. In 2009, he obtained a Ph.D. degree; his research focused on the oncological treatment and reconstructive microsurgery of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers. His academic work was recognized in 2016 with a habilitation from Semmelweis University.

In addition to his scientific activities, he is actively involved in professional public life and is a member and leader of several national and international medical associations. Since 2018, he has served as President of the Hungarian Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His areas of expertise include the complex surgical treatment and microvascular reconstruction of head and neck cancer patients, oral rehabilitation, orthognathic (jaw-corrective) surgery, and aesthetic facial surgery.

In treating his patients, he places great emphasis on oncological and functional safety, combined with aesthetic considerations and personalized treatment planning, using the most advanced technological solutions available.
