Dr. Gyöngy Andrea

Dr. Gyöngy Andrea graduated from the University of Debrecen in 2003. She gained her experience in internal medicine involving diabetology in the 140-bed gastroenterology and endocrinology department of the Eger County Hospital between 2003-2020, as a department physician for more than 12 years.

Within internal medicine, she specialised in diabetology in 2019. Then in 2019 she passed the Diabetology license examination at the Hungarian Diabetes Society, also with excellent grades. In the last decade and a half, the range of diabetes treatment has expanded with new therapeutic options. Today, we can also offer antidiabetic preparations for type II diabetics among disease-modifying therapies. This allows maximum personalisation of treatment and prevention of complications.

From 2020 until today, the treatment and care of diabetics has been carried out partly in the diabetology outpatient department of the Bugát Pál Hospital in Gyöngyös and partly in the Parádfürdő State Hospital.

She credits her work to the positive feedback she receives from her patients, or when she succeeds in convincing a "neglected" or under-treated diabetic patient, for example, of the importance of proper treatment and getting them to change their lifestyle. She believes that diabetes management will be complete and effective through teamwork - both on the part of the doctor and the patient.

We are very pleased that she is a diabetologist at our institution, as she is constantly training herself in professional courses and congresses, keeping in mind the development of science. From time to time, she herself gives lectures.

Apart from the diabetes, with advancing age, it is a progressive disease. However, with timely therapy and lifestyle changes, it can be kept in balance for a long time. The sooner a normal carbohydrate metabolism is achieved, the more likely it is that complications (such as blindness) can be avoided. Therefore, consult a diabetologist in good time, there is no such thing as "having mild diabetes"!
