Dr. Kathy Sándor graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Debrecen in 1993. He then worked at the General Surgery Department of the Kenézy Hospital in Debrecen, where he worked for 29 years. During this time, he qualified in 1998 in surgery, and in 2011 in gastroenterology. In 2006, he was appointed as an adjunct professor and worked as head of the on-call service and head of department. In 2017, he was promoted to Chief Medical Director, and in 2019 he became Deputy Head of Department. In 2022, he was appointed Clinical Chief Physician at the University of Debrecen. In addition, he was involved in the patient care, organisation, and operations of the private care Kenézy MedHotel as a consultant surgeon for 10 years.
He gained his professional experience in the hospital and in the county's busy specialised clinics, in the surgical department of the county hospital – University Teaching Hospital. In the course of his daily work, he has followed the development of surgery, performing thousands of operations on a wide range of surgical procedures.
During the Covid period he performed tumour surgery at the Department of Surgery of the University of Debrecen. He was a member of the so-called gastrointestinal onco-team, which made decisions in the care of cancer patients, and of the so-called breast onco-team. At that time, he performed multidisciplinary operations in cancer surgery.
He has been involved in teaching at the University of Debrecen, training medical students, medical candidates, and specialists. He has performed several laparoscopic demonstration surgeries. He has been at the forefront in the application and teaching of laparoscopic techniques, in addition to laparoscopic hernia and biliary surgeries, especially in laparoscopic reflux hernia surgeries, and laparoscopic colon surgeries.
He has participated in numerous national and international scientific meetings, training courses and courses, where he has tried to continuously improve his knowledge (Budapest, Gosau, Corfu, Nice, Barcelona, Lisbon, Glasgow, Prague, Berlin, Helsinki, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, St. Petersburg, etc.). In addition, he has participated in clinical studies.
He is currently in private surgical practice in Debrecen and Nyíregyháza and has joined the MC60 medical team.
