Auricular acupuncture

A fülakupunktúra egy alternatív gyógyászati módszer – MC60

What is auricular acupuncture?

Auricular acupuncture is an alternative medical technique based on the idea that specific points on the outer ear correspond to various organs and parts of the body. In other words, the ear functions as a microsystem that reflects the entire body. By stimulating these precise points with tiny needles or other tools, it is possible to influence the functioning of corresponding body parts and support the healing process.

This method is based on the NADA protocol (short for National Acupuncture Detoxification Association), a simple yet highly effective acupuncture technique. It involves inserting needles into specific points on the ear to help regulate the body’s functions, reduce stress, and promote regeneration. Scientifically supported and entirely natural, this complementary therapy effectively aids in restoring inner balance, supporting self-regulatory processes, and achieving emotional calm.

When is auricular acupuncture recommended?

The NADA protocol is a globally recognized, natural method that effectively supports the body and mind in a variety of situations, including:

  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Relieving nervous exhaustion and fatigue
  • Supporting hormonal balance
  • Enhancing digestion and metabolic processes
  • Assisting the body’s natural detoxification functions
  • Supporting a health-conscious lifestyle change
  • Aiding in the process of overcoming addictions
  • Strengthening physical endurance, bone health, and vitality
  • Promoting concentration, inner calm, and emotional balance
  • Alleviation and improvement of learning difficulties
  • Reduction of attention disorders and hyperactivity

Ear acupuncture does not replace medical treatment, but it can be an effective complementary therapy!

What should you know about the treatment?

The reflex points located on the ear are connected to the body’s organs and nervous system. There are two main types of ear acupuncture treatments: traditional needle-based ear acupuncture and procedures using long-term stimulation devices.

During traditional needle-based ear acupuncture, the practitioner places fine, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points on the ear. Throughout the treatment, these needles provide targeted stimulation of nerve endings, supporting the body’s natural self-healing processes. The needles are removed at the end of the session, making the procedure quick, safe, and capable of producing an immediate effect on physical and mental balance.

Long-term stimulation devices — such as permanent needles, small plant seeds, and ear magnets — maintain the effects of the treatment for several days by continuously stimulating the ear’s acupuncture points. After placement, the semi-permanent needles are secured with skin-friendly adhesive tape, allowing patients to wear them comfortably while going about their daily activities.

Traditional needles
  • Our specialist places sterile, single-use needles into specific acupuncture points on the auricle (outer ear). The needles usually remain in place for 20–40 minutes, during which the patient rests calmly. Treatments are performed once a week and are planned as a course, tailored to the individual condition and therapeutic goals.
  • According to the NADA protocol, a course of ear acupuncture typically consists of 12–16 sessions. With one treatment per week, this generally means a duration of 3–4 months, which may be extended, if necessary, based on the patient’s condition and therapeutic objectives.
  • After completing a 16-session course following the NADA protocol, a 2-4-week break is usually recommended. During this period, the body “processes” the effects of the treatments, and depending on the patient’s condition, a new treatment course or maintenance sessions may be started later.
Permanent needles
  • The use of long-term stimulation devices is an effective complement to ear acupuncture treatments, especially when clinic visits are less frequent or when the patient wishes to maintain the therapeutic effect for a longer period. Whether using permanent needles, seeds, or magnets, each method provides gentle, continuous stimulation that supports nervous system balance, regeneration, and the maintenance of inner harmony.
  • Recommended for: Patients seeking more intensive, continuous stimulation — for example in cases of high stress levels, chronic pain , or longer recovery periods .
  • Mechanism of action: Small, sterile needles made of stainless steel that provide constant, mild stimulation to keep the acupuncture point continuously activated.
  • Method of application: With permanent ear needles, both ears can be treated at the same time. In cases of increased sensitivity, only one ear is treated at a time, with the other ear addressed at the next application.
  • Duration: Typically worn for 3–5 days, with a maximum of 7 days, after which they must be replaced for hygienic reasons.
Permanent seeds
  • The use of long-term stimulation devices is an effective complement to ear acupuncture treatments, especially when clinic visits are less frequent or when the patient wishes to maintain the therapeutic effect for a longer period. Whether using permanent needles, seeds, or magnets, each method provides gentle, continuous stimulation that supports nervous system balance, regeneration, and the maintenance of inner harmony.
  • Recommended for: Patients with sensitive skin, those who are afraid of needles, as well as children and elderly patients.
  • Mechanism of action: The gentle mechanical pressure of natural plant seeds stimulates the selected acupuncture point, activating the body’s self-healing processes and energy flow — completely needle-free and pain-free.
  • Duration: Can remain on the ear for 5–7 days and should be activated several times daily by applying gentle pressure for approximately 30–60 seconds.
Permanent magnets
  • The use of long-term stimulation devices is an effective complement to ear acupuncture treatments, especially when clinic visits are less frequent or when the patient wishes to maintain the therapeutic effect for a longer period. Whether using permanent needles, seeds, or magnets, each method provides gentle, continuous stimulation that supports nervous system balance, regeneration, and the maintenance of inner harmony.
  • Recommended for: Patients who wish to combine mechanical stimulation with mild magnetic stimulation. It may be particularly beneficial for enhancing circulation and supporting faster regeneration.
  • Mechanism of action: The magnet creates a mild electromagnetic field that complements the effect of pressure-based stimulation.
  • Duration: Typically worn for 3–5 days, with a maximum of 7 days, after which replacement is required for hygienic reasons.

What ear acupuncture treatments are available at MC60?

The following programs not only represent treatment options but also indicate a conscious direction for change — the areas in which you may need support. Treatments are performed once a week, tailored individually to your needs, and adjusted to your personal goals.

Smoking cessation program
  • This program is designed for those who want to quit smoking but have been held back by cravings, stress, or habitual patterns. The goal of the auricular acupuncture addiction treatment is to reduce nicotine cravings, alleviate withdrawal symptoms (such as tension and irritability), and support the maintenance of the decision to quit.
  • What happens during the program? Treatments are performed once a week, during which specific points on the ear are stimulated. This helps to calm the nervous system, reduce cravings, and strengthen self-control. Most participants feel calmer after the first session and find it easier to say no to cigarettes.
Emotional eating reduction program
  • This program is designed for those who eat not out of hunger, but due to stress, boredom, or emotional strain. Cravings for sweets or uncontrolled snacking are common.
  • What happens during the program? Weekly ear acupuncture sessions help to reduce nervous tension and impulsive eating urges. The treatment supports the body’s ability to reconnect with its natural signals, making it easier to distinguish true hunger from emotional eating. Clients often report fewer cravings and calmer, more mindful decisions around food.
Alcohol reduction program
  • This program is recommended for those who want to reduce the role of alcohol in their lives, whether it’s used for evening relaxation, has become a habitual consumption, or appears in situations of lost control.
  • What happens during the program? Weekly ear acupuncture sessions help to release internal tension, which often underlies alcohol use. The treatment supports nervous system balance, reduces urges, and encourages the adoption of alternative stress-management strategies. The goal is not prohibition, but a more conscious and balanced approach to alcohol consumption.
Stress and anxiety reduction program
  • This program is designed for those experiencing chronic stress, internal tension, restlessness, or exhaustion and who wish to calm down and slow their pace.
  • What happens during the program? Weekly ear acupuncture sessions focus on soothing the nervous system, reducing stress hormones, and restoring inner balance. Many clients report better sleep, calmer reactions, and an improved ability to handle daily pressures.
Habit-breaking and self-control strengthening program
  • This program is designed for those who want to overcome ingrained, repetitive behaviors and strengthen self-discipline and inner stability.
  • In which situations can it help?
    • Phone addiction – constant urge to check notifications
    • Gaming addiction – online, mobile, or gambling-related
    • Relationship dependency – difficulty saying no or setting boundaries
    • Impulsive shopping – “I have to buy it now” feeling
    • Compulsive habits – repetitive automatic behaviors
    • Procrastination – loss of control over decisions
  • What happens during the program? Weekly auricular acupuncture addiction treatments help to reduce impulsivity and constant internal urges. The sessions support nervous system calmness, creating a conscious “pause” between urge and action. In this space, you can choose your response rather than reacting automatically, allowing for intentional decision-making.
From what age is the treatment recommended?

Auricular acupuncture can be effectively used as a complementary method to support both physical and emotional well-being in children. Our specialist welcomes children from the age of 6 and uses a needle-free technique: small pressure point beads or plant seeds are gently applied to the ear, completely pain-free. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), these points reflect the entire body and can influence the functioning of internal organs, the nervous system, and emotional balance. Gently massaging the beads three times a day for about 30 seconds enhances the effect, though the treatment is still effective even without it – just a bit milder.
