Ophthalmology is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on the health of the eyes and the visual system. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing a wide range of eye conditions, including vision impairment, inflammatory eye diseases, and structural abnormalities of the eye.
The field includes precise vision testing, determining correction with glasses or contact lenses, as well as carrying out the necessary medical and surgical procedures. Ophthalmology plays a key role in the early detection of eye diseases, the preservation of vision, and the improvement of quality of life.
It is worth visiting an ophthalmologist not only when we already experience clear vision problems, but also for preventive purposes. In the following cases, it is definitely recommended to consult an eye specialist:
1. Vision deterioration, blurred vision
2. Eye pain, pressure sensation
3. Frequent headaches
4. Redness, discharge, inflammation of the eye
5. Light sensitivity, flashes of light, sparkles
6. Floating spots or black dots in the field of vision
7. For regular screening purposes
8. For children
9. In case of hereditary risk
At MC60, we offer our ophthalmology services with personalized attention and state-of-the-art diagnostic tools. Each examination begins with an individual consultation, during which we thoroughly assess your vision problems, eye-related medical history, and lifestyle characteristics. Our goal is to gain the most accurate picture of your eye health and, based on that, recommend the most appropriate examination, treatment, or next step.
The comprehensive eye examination is a general, thorough check-up during which the ophthalmologist assesses the overall health of the eyes and visual acuity. It is the first step in diagnosing eye problems and in prevention. The examination typically includes the following key elements: medical history, visual acuity test, intraocular pressure measurement, slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy (eye fundus examination), and additional tests if necessary. The examination usually takes 20–30 minutes. If pupil dilation is required, it may take longer, as vision may temporarily become blurred.
The specialist eye examination with OCT is a detailed ophthalmological assessment complemented by Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). This advanced imaging technique enables cross-sectional, high-resolution visualization of the internal layers of the eye — primarily the retina and the optic nerve head. The duration of the examination is typically 30–40 minutes.
Surgical ophthalmology specializes in the operative treatment of various eye conditions and vision disorders. Its goal is not only to treat diseases but also to improve and restore vision. For participation in any minor surgery, a prior consultation is mandatory, which can be booked with the ophthalmology specialist in our outpatient care.
